New Look and a Free Chair

You can see I've changed things up around here. The old look was feeling predictable, so I've revamped my little corner of web with a little "fresh paint" (haha - lame).

Aside from that I've been rather busy in the house as well. Most recently I've been plugging away at art projects, which I'll share soon. But one of my favorite ventures lately was scoring a free chair. Sorry if my post title set you up for false hope that you'd have the chance to score a free chair yourself. Maybe if I ever make money at this I can do that for you, but until then I'll just tell you about my find.

Michael and I were taking a walk around the neighborhood. I spotted this neat chair on someone's front patio and they just so happened to just be getting home. Just as they were shutting the door behind them, I wrapped on their door and asked them where they got it.

Turns out they were going to put it out in a yard sale soon anyway. Score! We were on a street just behind ours and the lot behind ours backs up onto it, so Michael just tossed it over our fence...ha!

It's pretty retro, but in perfect condition. It's a Sunflower Chair made by L'Industrie Provinciale, produced in the 70's. It's a plastic injected molded seat with bent metal rod base. I guess they sell for $200-$240 now since they're considered vintage.

Best part? It goes PERFECTLY with our family room downstairs!

We fit so well in it!

Furniture Shopping

Now that the renos are mostly (pot lights and small details to still do) wrapped up, Michael and I are starting our furniture hunt. If you've seen any of the posts with living room furniture in them you may have noticed how very dorm room/apartment/old they are. Both of the hand-me-down, mismatched couches are filthy dirty and have been through a few moves. It's time for forever furniture. That's where the a beauty like the following might come into play (along with it's smaller loveseat friend):

Before you think, "Oh my goodness, white furniture with a kid on the way?!" on me, hear me out. We will be ordering (hopefully soon) a sofa and a loveseat for the main living space. The type of leather we would be getting is super durable and easily cleanable unlike any fabric. Even with the protector on fabric it wont look nearly as nice 10 years from now as this will.

Yes, I realize a kiddo with markers, pens, etc in hand could be potentially dangerous, but maybe if I just stick with those markers that only mark on the special paper that come with them and designate a space (ie. kitchen table with a vinyl table cloth on top) for crafting and art activities I can avoid any disastrous marks on the beautiful white furniture.

I just love the idea of having beautiful furniture and having it be both kid and dog friendly. It's a perfect world in my mind. Dog hair, puke, snot, poo, drinks, and food would be easily vacuumed/wiped up!

The bonus on the sofa pictured above is that I can get it at cost through the store I work at (!!!) and it matches the lines of the chair we will be ordering:

In this fabric:

So, do you think I'm crazy for wanting white leather furniture?
